
O'Saxman Frequently Asked Questions
Where do practices take place?
Practices take place at the Sax Centre, located at 3540 48 Ave NE, Calgary, AB T3J 5K2. The facility is located within Rotary Challenger Park Society.
Is there a parent meeting?
Yes, for O'Sax Core and O'Sax Gold programs, a parent meeting will be held within the first few weeks of the program. Details will be shared through TeamSnap once the program begins.
Who do I contact if I have a question?

The on-site supervisor for Spring & Summer programs is Jaxson Thys. Program leadership support is Grant O’Gorman. Please note that Isabela Lima O’Gorman is currently on maternity leave.
Will all athletes be placed in a program if they register?
Yes. All eligible athletes who register for O'Sax Sprouts, Minis, or Core seasonal program will be placed and able to participate.
Please note that O'Sax Gold is selection-based, and all athletes will first be placed into O'Sax Core. Please note that O'Sax Pro programming is based on invitation.
What if an athlete can’t attend the O'Sax Gold placement date?
If the athlete would like to be considered for the O'Sax Gold Program but cannot attend the first day of training, they are invited to send a video demonstrating their beach volleyball skills to osaxmanbeachclub@gmail.com.
What are the payment options?
Payment is due at the time of registration. All major payment types are accepted.

Will athletes get program gear?
For Spring/Summer programs, athletes registered before April 17, 2026 will receive a gear package during the first weeks of the program. Athlete sizes must be entered during registration.
Exchanges or additional sizes cannot be guaranteed.
Athletes registered after April 17, 2026 will have access to an online store (via Volleyball Stuff). This store will open after the program start date. Prices may vary.
Some of the Gold program gear will be ordered after tryouts, and delivery may take a few weeks.
Wearing O’Saxman gear to every practice is encouraged but not required.
When will athletes know their practice schedule?
Practice schedules (including strength training schedules for O'Sax Gold athletes) will be shared on the first day of practice.
When do practices take place?
Practices are held on weekday evenings after 4:00 PM. Specific days and times will be confirmed closer to the program start.
How do athletes access Gold training opportunities?
O’Sax Gold is accessed through the O’Sax Core training group.
All athletes register for O’Sax Core and may indicate interest in Gold during registration.
Selection sessions take place during the first few days of training, and athletes are evaluated holistically by the coaching staff.
Gold placement is dynamic and may change throughout the season based on readiness, commitment, and development. Athletes may move into — or out of — Gold as the season progresses.
Note: O’Sax Gold has a higher program cost than O’Sax Core. Athletes who accept an invitation into Gold will be required to pay the difference.
Can an O'Sax Core athlete move into the O'Sax Gold program during the season?
Yes. Athletes may be invited O'Sax Gold at any point during the season based on merit and development.
Can an athlete be moved out of the Gold program?
Yes. Participation in O'Sax Gold is evaluated throughout the season. Athletes may be moved out if expectations around commitment and effort are not met.
How will communication work during the season?
The O’Saxman Beach Club uses TeamSnap One and social media for schedules, updates, and weather communication. Families are responsible for signing up for TeamSnap One and monitoring these platforms regularly, as well as indicating attendance. Club-wide communication will occur via TeamSnap One and email.
What are the expectations of athletes?
All athletes are expected to:
Arrive on time and prepared for each practice (we understand emergencies happen).
Display a positive attitude, strong effort, and coachability.
Treat coaches, staff, teammates, opponents, and facilities with respect.
Follow all coaching and safety instructions.
Inform your coaches of any injuries and/or concerns they should be aware of.
Represent O’Saxman Beach Club positively on and off the court.
What if athletes miss practice?
Perfect attendance is not mandatory but is essential for athlete development. Athletes and parents must indicate availability and absences in TeamSnap in advance.
Missed practices are not eligible for refunds. Practices cancelled by the club will be communicated and rescheduled.
Are athletes required to compete in tournaments?
No, participation in tournaments is optional but strongly recommended. We believe the more athletes compete, the more they develop their skills and game understanding. Athletes and/or parents are responsible for signing up, attending, and following all tournament rules and schedules.
Coaches and Program Leads can provide guidance and support as needed.
Will practices be cancelled for weather?
Practices may be delayed, modified, or cancelled due to weather or unsafe conditions. No practice happens under lightning, thunder, hail, snow, and AQHI smoke ratings of 6 or above.
Weather updates will be communicated via TeamSnap and social media as early as possible.
Please note: Weather-related cancellations do not guarantee make-up sessions.
What should athletes bring to practice?
Athletes should bring weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water. The facility does not yet have running water.
Can parents watch practices?
Yes. Parents are welcome to watch practices.
Are there weekends without practices for the Spring/Summer program?
There will be no practices on July 1st, August 3rd, and select tournament weekends. Dates will be confirmed in advance.
How do I register for Volleyball Alberta tournaments under O’Saxman?
Instructions for registering under O’Saxman through Volleyball Alberta will be provided once the season begins.
What is the refund policy?
Program fees are non-refundable once the season begins, except in special circumstances. Refunds may be considered for season injuries or extraordinary circumstances. In that case, you can be refunded up to 33% of the remaining practice costs, depending on when the injury/situation occurs.
